Thought is being given to the possibility of building additional room space directly above
where we all sit down to eat. This would house a library which would be moved from the
first floor to the second.
Additional land purchase. There is a lot across from the school which is available for
sale. This would be a great lot for the school to have instead of just using that small lot
right behind the school. We think this property can be purchased for $10,000. Yes land
prices are soaring in Salquil. This mostly has to do with families having members illegally
being in the states and sending money back to Guatemala. This situation is driving up
prices in many rural areas of Guatemala.
School needs partners to:
1. Pray for staff, students, and specific needs
2. Send team (teach English, VBS, Math Bible, Music)
3. Help bring Carlos, Principal, to the U.S. to learn English
(Best months are April, May, and August)
a. Donations (can be air miles) for airfare
b. Lodging, food, and conversation in home
(This could be 4 different homes for one week each.)
c. ESL class and conversation
d. Volunteers to converse and enjoy life with him
(Son/daughter's sports event, dance practice/recital, sights
around Denver, bicycling, library, etc.)

How You can Help
a. Work Teams - Plan to organize a team to go to Light & Life School. Construction is a real necessity at this time. (Wall around playing field, simple roof over playing field, add one classroom to 2nd floor of school, put door for exit at back of building directly to playing field; cement floor in building where junior high students would study, participate in English Camp,completion of doors, windows
b.Friends of Light & Life - Find a volunteer to be on the U.S. Light & Life Friends Board. A Board member will commit for one year and attend one Board meeting during this time. This can be by conference phone call. Each Board member will find individuals, Sunday School classes, other groups to be Friends of Light & Life. Each Board member will develop support for one grade level at Light & Life School.
c. Speaker - Invite me or a "Friends" Board member to share the Ixil ministry with your church, Sunday School, bridge group, friends and family, golf partners, friends at the gym, etc.
Student Scholarships
The cost for per student is $35/month. Their parents, most of them subsistence farmers, pay $1.25/month. Pray with us that the Lord will raise up individuals, groups, Sunday School classes, elementary school classes, mission agencies, and churches to commit to sending $35/month. Up to this year Wycliffe has donated the major support to Light & Life School but has decreased its support every year. 2012 will be the last year that Wycliffe will be involved. We also have a few generous individual supporters. My heart commitment is to find financial help that replaces the Wycliffe support.
I believe that Light & Life School is the most important vehicle God can use to carry on the work of the Ixil translation. These children are learning to read the Bible in their heart language and will be the future Christians leaders. Please pray about the privilege of helping them.

The Gift of Learning-2009-2011
There are 60 students who needed textbooks. Each textbook contains the four subjects--language, science, math, and social studies and costs $35.Thanks to you who were willing to give a donation to provide one book for each student. The staff wants to teach well, and the students are eager to learn. They appreciate your interest!
Would you now consider giving the gift that keeps on giving? Think about one of your favorite books and how much it costs to purchase it. Then send a donation in the amount of the cost of that book to Light & Life School. We'll see that a beautiful book is purchased in a language they can understand. It will be read aloud in class and made available for the kids to read independently.
